Triangular Mild Steel Bar Ss400,also known as A3 steel, is an ordinary carbon structural steel. Triangular Mild Steel Bar SS400 is essentially equivalent to China's Q235 (specifically Q235A). However, there are differences in certain specific indicators. Q235 specifies the content of elements such as C, Si, Mn, S, and P, whereas SS400 only requires S and P to be less than 0.050%.
The yield point of Q235 is greater than 235 MPa, while that of SS400 is 245 MPa. SS400 (structural steel for general use) indicates that the tensile strength of general structural steel is greater than 400 MPa. In contrast, Q235 represents ordinary carbon structural steel with a yield point greater than 235 MPa.
The standard number for SS400 is JIS G3101, while that of Q235 is GB/T700. SS400 is a designation method used in Japanese standards, and in fact, it is equivalent to domestic Q235 steel. It is a type of structural steel material. The "Q" in Q235 stands for "yield point," and "235" refers to the approximate yield strength value, which is around 235 MPa. The yield strength tends to decrease as the thickness of the material increases.
Due to its moderate carbon content, Q235 exhibits a good balance of strength, ductility, and weldability, making it the most widely used steel type. It is commonly rolled into wire or various steel profiles such as round bar, square bar, flat bar, angle bar, I-beam, channel steel, window frame steel, and medium-thickness steel plates.
This steel is widely used in construction and engineering structures, including the manufacturing of reinforcement bars, plant frames, high-voltage transmission towers, bridges, vehicles, boilers, containers, ships, and more.
