Mechanical Properties
Yield Strength:
Annealed state: 172 - 345 MPa (25 - 50 ksi)
Cold-drawn wire (1.6 - 6.4 mm, spring-tempered): 1035 - 1450 MPa (150 - 210 ksi)
Tensile Strength:
Nominal room-temperature: 520 - 1170 MPa (75 - 170 ksi)
Cold-worked wire: 1170 - 1520 MPa (170 - 220 ksi)
Elongation: 35% - 55% in the annealed state.
Impact Strength: Maintains good toughness at room temperature and does not exhibit a ductile-to-brittle transition at lower temperatures.
Fatigue Strength:
Affected by grain size and mechanical properties in high-speed rotating beam fatigue applications.
Minimal effect on low-cycle fatigue strength.
Creep Resistance: Excellent resistance to slow and gradual deformation over time, particularly at high temperatures.
Chemical Properties
Corrosion Resistance
Acid and Alkali Resistance:
The high nickel content provides excellent resistance in reducing environments and alkaline solutions.
Chromium enhances resistance to sulfur compounds and oxidation in high-temperature and corrosive environments.
Chloride Resistance:
With a minimum nickel content of 72%, the alloy is highly resistant to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking.
However, under high-temperature, high-strength caustic conditions or mercury exposure, stress-corrosion cracking may still occur.
Gas Resistance:
Exhibits good resistance to dry chlorine and hydrogen chloride gases, even at high temperatures.
Processability Properties
Formability: Suitable for both cold working and hot working.
Weldability: Can be joined using resistance welding, fusion welding, or brazing.
Machinability: Easily machinable in the hot-processed and annealed states.
